According to the SDGE (San Diego Gas & Electric) company website, it costs 80 cents an hour to operate the AC and 2 cents per hour to operate a fan whether it is portable or ceiling mounted. Thus, your fans are costing you 6 cents an hour versus the 80 cents your AC would cost you. Now, try going on the website for your power supplier to see what they charge per kwh in your area, but I still think operating the AC is way more expensive.

You did not provide enough information to answer this question accurately. You need to know how many kw/hr it cost for each unit then multiply it by the amount of time you use each. Someone said you should test each scenario for a month, but this way is much faster and accurate. If you look at each device it should tell you how much energy it takes to run them.

With that being said, it takes way more energy to run an AC then a fan. Think about what a fan does, it just spins around. An AC has to spin a fan, draw in air, cool it, then distribute it throughout the house.

It depends on the size of the fans, and the AC unit, but I would say that the AC uses more energy.

The a/c is an energy hog. You didn't provide enough info about the fans you have deployed, but fans demand gererally low energy.

bo may have a good point. Why dont u test it out. One month use the fans, the other use the ac. See which bill comes up higher.
