An easy queastion, the best movie by far made in the 1950's is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. It was made in, i want to say 1954, (it could be 1955) it stars the ever handsome Howard Keel (also played in Show boat with Kathryn Grayson, in 1951) and the beautiful Jane Powell. From the 1940's a wonderful movie is Leave her to Heaven starring Gene Tierney and Cornel Wilde made in 1945. These are both great movies. Especially Seven Brides; it had wonderful music and the choreography is just amazing. They just don't make movies like that anymore!

Billy Wilder's Stalag 17. A great story, good direction, Bill Holden's best film, IMHO. And Peter Graves as Security--didja ever spend time in a German POW camp, Billy?
