You have a high side and a low side. You want to put the freon in the low side. You can use a regular tire guage to check which side is which. Normally, if you are using 134a rather than r12, the adaptor will only fit on the low side.

DO NOT USE A TIRE GUAGE AND ALWAYS CHARGE ON THE HIGH SIDE. I AM CERTIFIED TO DO THIS. THE HIGH SIDE GOES FROM THE COMPRESSER TO THE CONDENSER IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR. LOOK FOR A VALVE AND IF IT HAS A CAP IT WILL HAVE AN "H" ON IT. NEVER PUT LIQUID FREON IN THE LOW SIDE
