You should really ask why are so many people in general bad at spelling (and grammar). Creative people spell like everyone else; some are good, some are bad, some make mistakes only sometimes. It doesn't matter at all if they are creative or not. I'm creative (writer and ballroom dance instructor) and I spell fine. I used to win spelling bees in school all the time. My dad and husband are always asking me to spell things for them. My dad is creative, but not a good speller. My husband is not very creative at all, or a good speller. It doesn't have anything to do with creative ability.

Maybe they're creative and under-educated... or creative and sloppy, or creative and egotistical so they think they don't need to check. I'm a very creative, artistic person, but my typing skills are poor... many times I know how to spell a word, and my grammar is fine, but my typing sloppy and I misspell things. I care, and usually double check my work, but many people don't care, don't double check, (or do and still make mistakes or rely on spell-check only, which is flawed logic). There are many different spellings for some simple words (like color and colour, or catalog and catalogue, varying due to location and culture), and not everybody has access to the OED ;-) Many people, however, simply don't realize how foolish it makes them seem to spell phonetically, or just very poorly, which often happens on-line and in emails, and are in too much of a rush to think about it.

I have never heard that. I would say it is a load of rubbish, to be honest because I am creative and I can spell perfectly well too. Saying that, I think I can understand why it might happen. Creative people often have to get things done quickly, for example, if you think of a good line for a poem then you might want to get it down on paper asap so you might misspell something.

I'm creative and I'm good at spelling. I put my spelling skills down to reading a lot as a child. Even when I was younger I had a good vocabulary - all my teachers used to comment on it. Bad spelling annoys me. I think with all the spellcheck programmes around, there's no excuse for it. Also, what's wrong with a dictionary?!

Hey....I'm creative and I'm one of the best spellers I know! I almost always got the highest marks in the spelling tests - plus I got top grades for Art as well as Design
I'm always writing stories, (which, I might add are appreciated on the internet by a good range of readers) drawing, painting, making models, doing photography, woodworking, AND I can spell things like terrestrial, Wednesday, arboretum, definitely, extraordinary, dissolution, psychoanalysis, Pseudotropheus.....know the difference between you're and your...can use speech marks and semicolons...
The list goes on!
So - what's the little box called that I fit in, then? XD

Because they use the dominant right side of their brain to be creative. The left side is the side concerned with speech and spelling, and is consequently worse in creative people.

some people are dyslexic or maybe just in a rush writing or typing.
But even if they are not the worlds best spellers that's doesn't take anything away from that person They excel in other fields, its jus the people out there that think themselves as bloody Einstein they make my skin crawl.

Creative people chase wild thoughts, they use less control within their brains, so they tend to do less structured things like spelling.
Spelling is achieved through discipline which also seems to stifle creativity.

I'm creative and I can spell, so I don't know what you mean.
Perhaps they are so creative, they create their own spellings :)
