The words `hell' and `hades' have been inappropriately interchanged in the English language. The word hades is actually the `abode of the dead'.....the place where dead souls go. Jesus Christ went there upon his three days of tomb time, but he rose again and is no longer there. Hell is a place of eternal torment.

In the Hebrew Scriptures, the word used to described the realm of the dead is "Sheol." It simply means the "place of the dead" or the "place of departed souls/spirits." The New Testament Greek word that is used for hell is "Hades," which also refers to “the place of the dead.” Other Scriptures in the New Testament indicate that Sheol / Hades is a temporary place, where souls are kept as they await the final resurrection and judgment. Revelation 20:11-15 gives a clear distinction between the two. Hell (the lake of fire) is the permanent and final place of judgment for the lost. Hades is a temporary place. So, no, Jesus did not go to “Hell” because “Hell” is a future realm, only put into effect after the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15).
He did go and preach to the spirits in prison...but that is not Hell.
1 Peter 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
Ephesians 4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

What makes you think Luke knew anything? He was just some dummy walking around in a sheet that didn't know about gravity or if the earth revolved around the sun. Jehovas Witnesses are like avon ladies knocking on doors and wearing cheap walmart suits, riding goofy bicycles. Look at Michael Jackson. he was a witness. Got thrown out for cussing!!! When you decipher God's fortune cookie let me know. I might have to change my lifestyle and stay away from Abrahams Bosom Dummy!!

honestly my subjective feelings to the message it shows me nothing that is correalating to Jesus it's talking about two different people I think. jehova witness have there beliefs and you do to, but if your questioning something you don't quite feel is accurate I would suggest that the correct answer is within you and what you feel is true or not.
Im not going to push no religeons or area's of a book that I feel is what is the only answer to Jesus passing on and where or how many stops he had before he went to his final eternity. I am not God nor feeling there was a calling to teach you that one culture's way is right because we were born into it and became socially culturized to the norms of one country because others born across the world were born and taught to believe in another God or another way of life and taught their ways.
so you see many different religeons yet all seem to agree on one thing it seems that there is a higher being and we will one day go somewhere else so I would rather prefer to keep in simple and not dig into what really happened for I thought we were suppose to have faith I thought??? why do we need to go out and dig up pieces of wood for a boat that was possibly noahs ark then....???? or try to break divinci codes and go to holy sites for healing....wow alot of work for faith ?
I feel faith is within and ur higher being is with u always and whenever u need guidance or assist to life or a question ask ur god for clairity or strength to get through what ever struggles u may be going through and if U do have faith an do believe I feel it will be then and u should get answers within.
do some soul searching and find out about you and your feelings and go from there re: your beliefs.
good luck to you my friend,
blessed be,

Your question is a good one, i'm sorry folks but in the main your answers are not. If we understand why Jesus visited hell it will all make sense so lets forget the religious stuff and start over.
When we sin we allow the devil to rule our life.
Jesus died without sin so Jesus had rule (authority) over the devil.
Jesus can therefore walk into hell and out again. The devil can do nothing about it.
All of mankind has given rule to the devil because we've all sinned
so none of us has power over the devil.
God needed to get that power or rule back for the humans.
So Jesus died as a man without sin
Now the devil has a problem.
Because Jesus now has power (or rule) over the devil.
The devil had everything humans wanted. For example. peace. Joy. Love. Relationship with God. These things are represented by keys. (Revelations 1:18)
Jesus now had the power or rule to take those keys back.(Phillipians 2:7-11. Matthew 28:18)
So into hell He goes and takes back all we need. John 20:17 confirms He didn't even return to the father(or heaven) before completing the task.
So Jesus is the victory of God over the devil.
However humans must actively choose to believe in their Saviour The Lord Jesus Christ. (Mark 16:16. Romans 10:9-10)
Now the devil is on over time trying to lie to the whole world that he has power to take you to hell. That lie (John 8:44) works if you dont actively choose Jesus . Only Jesus has authority so make Him your Lord and saviour and you will inherit the victory! Romans 8:37.
Finally I don't pretend to be perfect but I hope this helps. The authority given to Jesus in the scriptures I have quoted often refer to authority he had once he had control of the keys. But he earnt that authority to take the keys by dying as a sinless man and making a mockery of the devil Colossians 2:15.

Yes, the bible does teach that Jesus was for three days in a place or condition that some bible translations call "hell". However, Jehovah's Witnesses and the bible teach that "hell" is the grave, the memorial tombs, the condition of sleeplike inanimation.
Hell is NOT someplace/something mankind needs to fear; there is no suffering in the grave. Sometime after the resurrection, death and "hell" will themselves be destroyed.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all
(Ecclesiastes 9:10) there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol ["hell"]
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades ["hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire

I'm not sure who you are talking with but this is not a religious beliefe of Jehovah's Witnesses. Remember not everyone who claims to be something in reality is. But regarding your question the bible does not talk about hell in a literal sense- it, is symbolic meaning second death or eternal death and only when it is refered to as Gehena. ( Hades and Seol are both mentioned as well but they refer to the tomb or cementary ) Those who are sent to Gehena or ( hell) will simply not have a place in Paradaise (those who mentioned what Jesus said to the dying man next to him at death - bingo- ) he said "you will be with me in Paradise"- those who have died will be resurrected as the bible states in john 5: 28-29. Jesus himself proved this when he ressurected his friend Lazurus. If lazurus had been in heaven like many believe, Why would jesus have brought him back to suffer again here on earth and eventually die anyways? and How come Lazurus never spoke of his trip to heaven? As for the bible it states in Psalms 146: 4 "In the day you die your very thoughts do perish"- Could we survive if our brain does not function? No that is impossible the brain is vital to our life - therefore if we do not have thoughts or concsioness why would we go to hell and be tormented if our brain could not process that information- it would be meaningless. Besides we can all agree that God's most outstanding quality is LOVE - Would you burn your child's hands on the stove when they do bad things? NO - so Why would God- who is perfect in his Love - unlike us- burn people in hell because they did a few bad things on earth.
The bible in Revelation or Apocalipsis 14: 1-3 - talks about the number of those who are chosen to go to heaven- there ( in the bible ) it states that the number is 144,000 - these are chosen to help reign with Jesus- the reason is because they like us know what it is to be imperfect humans-something that Jesus and the angels have never experienced. But for the rest of us the hope is this- The Resurrection - (Revelation 21:3-4)To live forever on a paradise earth with no mourning nor outcry nor death, this time will soon come and these former things will have passed away.
Psalms 37:10-11, 37 and for those who do not know what a witness is look up Isaiah 43:10 it will help.

No dear, Jesus did not go to hell but the Jehova witnessess believe he did because they believe that hell is the grave............well, i hope they don't find out that hell, according to the bible IS a place of fire and torment. Don't believe the Jehova witness clan. When I was pregnate with my daughter in 1974, I had one come to my home and tell me sitting my livingroom that I would not see my baby born because the world was coming to an end.........well, here it is 2006 and the world is still here, my daughter is here and so am I.

Jehovah's witnesses don't believe the Bible. They think the Bible can only be interpreted by their leaders, so using a bible scripture to answer a Jehovah's question doesn't make sense to them. They believe what their leaders tell them to believe and only what is in the Watchtower. They believe that only they are right and everyone else is wrong. They also believe that Jesus is a prophet but not the Son of God and that there is only one God - no Holy Spirit or Son. So to answer your question - if you are a Jehovah's Witness the answer is yes, if you are not, then you are not sure because the Bible does not say where Jesus went during those three days. I believe that when we see him one day, He will answer our questions.

I don't think so. Many do but I have a couple of reasons for believing that Jesus did not go to hell. The first reason was that he told the one thief on the cross that you will be with Me this day in Paradise. The second reason is that just before He died on the cross he said, "It is finished." To me that says that the atonement for our sins was complete.
