When I was 14 I read Branded, a book by Alissa Quart about brand names and how advertising affects teenagers. After that I sort of went DIY and cut all the labels out of my clothes and refused to buy anything with visible brand names on it (i.e., The Gap, Tommy Hilifiger, the shirts with the little polo ponie4s, ect.) I refused to go to the mall for about a year. I've kind of mellowed now, (no brand names, no 'I love certain stores', I do go to the mall occasionally tho) but has anyone else gone through something like this? Are brand names important to you?

i too went through a period where i would not wear any brand names, though ironically, all my blank t-shirts were made by the same comany - AAA. which is also strange considering that AAA are my real name's initials. although i have never read branded (not that it would matter anyway. i'm not the type to be easily swayed by something just because it has been printed) i came to the conclusion that some cases i could and would be judged by the label on my jeans and i didn't like the idea of that very much. that part of my life is all behind me now. i realized that it doesn't matter whether people learn to hate me for what i wear or who i am, they all eventually come to the same conclusion anyway, right? nowadays i sometimes do show brand loyalty to the labels that seem to always make the sh*t that i want (by way of intution, mind control, telepathy or any combonation of the three) like Dickies and AAA. i am also fairly loyal to the skateboard companies that make the products that i like to ride, but that is for functionality rather than fashion. every skateboarder knows where his loyalties lies and have found what they want in their shoes and in a skateboard through trial and error. i guess what i'm trying to say is that my choice skateboarding brands has nothing to do with fashion so please don't think that i'm some sort of hypocrite
p.s.: i don't know if you remember me or not, but did you ever get that reply to your music e-mail that i sent you? if not, i just wanted to tell you thanks and i love a lot of the artist and songs that you mentioned and thank you for introducing me to some new stuff too. i was also wondering if you could rip and e-mail me that dj ferret's underground club mix compilation cd. thanks a lot

Its sad, because a lot of people are so tied up with brand names that they just identify themselves with it and never learn who they are as a person.. outside of the label.
As you can tell I am not big on brand names but I do look for quality.
I have a hard time buying most brand names because I know they are wayyy over charging. Especially considering a hard worker on the other side of the world probably made the garment for under a dollar, and they want you to buy it for over $50

There used to be. I made sure my clothes had a bebe or guess logo on it. Funny. Now I prefer buying better looking clothes then the ones with the logo ('casue it's a normal t-shirt, only with a logo). I go to The Limited, New York and Co, and other stores.

This answer applies to anyone who thinks brand names are important.
Unless it corresponds to an analysis of the quality of the product, then you are one more victim of what is, kindly stated, silliness.
If you bought something and it had to have a name on it, then it should be YOUR damned name. You shouldn't use your butt as free advertising.

They are not so important to the point that's all that I will buy, but if I like something that happens to be name brand I will buy it ( as long as the price isn't to outrageous). But I will buy something from Wal-Mart too if it is nice. I don't really care about those things much.

fits r basically ur looks, so branded items r just rip-offs. wat looks good is bst fit and dey all come in knockoffs, low priced clothings. so stop payin someones luxury desire n get fits dat looks good on u.
LOOKIN GOOD IS GOOD BIZ. NOT BRANDED U IS JUST A SIGNPOST OF NO VALUE TO U
