My husband and I mash up apple, melon. and orange for our 4 month old son. I gave him cherry ( mashed and dillouted with water) today and my husband asked if cherries were ok. I honestly don't I know I would think it would be. I know you can't give babies honey is there anything else I shoudln't give him? We only give him fruit. Other than that he is on formula.

The fruit he eats is dillouted with water and mashed very well. He doesn't "eat" the fruit he drinks the juice/water from a spoon. We only gave him orage once but apple or melon is every day. He has no allergies to them and no problems in the diaper department.

The oranges are questionable because they are acidic. If he hasn't had an adverse reaction (rash, diarrhea) then he should be fine. I would watch him for reactions to the cherries tho. And don't introduce too many fruits at one time, if he does have a reaction you need to know which fruit caused it. You are right, no honey for babies - it's known to cause allergic reactions. Apple, melon and oranges are fine. You might try some bananas - they're soft, easy to digest and good for him.

Yes - you should avoid citrus fruit (that does include strawberries) for the first year because citrus can cause an allergic reaction. I don't see why cherries would be a problem, although they might be kind of a pain, to pit and mash enough to make a serving.
Have you tried avocado and sweet potatoes? I bet he'd like them.

Citrus and berries are the most allergenic fruits. They shouldn't be introduced until at least 9 months, although many people recommend waiting for a year.
But a baby shouldn't get *any* solids until 6 months old or older. They cannot digest them, and it can cause him to develop allergies.

I'll tell you what. I'm not a doctor, but a mother of two. You should be asking your pediatrician this question. He/She will know what is best for your child. However, keep a close eye on him after you've given him a new food, and don't give him more than one new food in a weeks time. That way if he has an allergic reaction, you'll know what it's to. I wish you lots of luck!

My son was allergic to strawberries. When he was about 14 months old my mom let him have some at her house. He broke out into a bad rash all over. The poor kid had lots of pain in the diaper area from it. I suggest just being cautious as to what you give your baby. Give him small quantities at a time to make sure all is well.

Strawberries before age 1 due to the potential for allergic reactions and sometimes bananas can cause gas pain.

usually you shouldnt give children under 1 any citrus fruits or juice because of the acidity could cause them to have a bad stomach pains because their digestive systems are not developed enough.

Citrus (oranges, lemon, lime, grapefruit...) and strawberries are all off limits for babies. Also do not give your baby anything with peanuts until he is at least 2 years old.

You're supposed to hold off on strawberries and citrus until they are at least a year old.
