Yes u do have a moral obligation to ask your neighbor, but if the neighbor does not agree with you, you may cut and trim your side that is hanging over your part of the yard legally. If there is a danger of someone getting hurt it is there responsibility, but if they don't do go right ahead. Meet them in court!

I would recommend talking with your neighbor first. Also, in some areas, it is against the law to cut down a tree without permission from the city, due to historical and environmental laws. It's better to check than do it and be sorry afterwards.

Check your boundry line. If they're on your line, then you can cut them down. If not, then consult your neighbor. Downing trees is expensive. Ask them to contribute!! I just had 15 removed from my property

Yup, they might be their trees. You can, however, cut any limbs on the tree that are on your side of the property... it would just be a nicety to let them know your intentions.

You have to tell your neighbors. Unless you have had the property surveyed and you know for sure they are yours.

i say yes. you may also have a legal responsibility. some towns also regulate tree removal.
