I don't know of any punks who would put flowers in their hair - I think Sandi is a bit confused with hippies. What do you think?

Maybe they fell down into some flowers, or they were attacked by little prissy girl mobsters riding their trikes of death and pinkness!

Sandi is comparing hippies to punks in the song. A punk rocker with flowers in her hair is an amalgamation of two era where revolution was in the air. That's why in the next line she mentions the years 77 (punks) and 69 (hippies). Sandi's point is that she wishes she were a cross between the two revolutionary era, as today the youth seem to have nothing like this to live off. Perhaps a closer examination of the lyrics before making off the cuff comments about a song may be worthwhile.

Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
In 77 and 69 revolution was in the air
I was born too late to a world that doesn’t care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
I think the point may be that Sandi Thom is confusing era purposefully here. She refers to 1977 - synomonous with punks and 69 - time of the hippy as indicators of time of revolution and anarchy in our past.
I think she's commenting on our lack of drive and fight in the 'noughties'. The suggestion is that she wants to be involved with any kind of movement devoted to revolution and fighting for a cause - thus typified by being a 'punk rocker' with 'flowers in her hair'.

yeah I don't think that makes much sense either. I mean, just I'm a punk rocker and the only place I put flowers is as far away as possible (havfever, nothing against flowers) but seriously, what self respecting punk would wear flowers in their hair???

I don't think so either! The first time I heard it, I'm like-what the f*ck? Since when do punks have flowers in their hair? Its an ok song though, its nice to hear that somebody wishes they were a punk rocker!

There is definately some kind of disconnect here.
Hippy-punks? NO, the two philosophies and entire approach to life are diametrically opposed.

Isn't it supposed to be an ironic statement?
essentially lamenting today's homoginization and commodifiction of both the punk and hippie movements by today's cell-phone-texting-MTV-and-coke-presents pseudo punk??
I mean lets face it - punk in its purest essence jumped the shark years ago.. these new "pop-punk" bands of today are a pale imitation.
