For the past 3 years, I have made it a priority to get admission into my top choice of university, Cornell University in Ithica, NY. However, my GPA finalizes to a 3.52 unweighted, and my SAT score is a pathetic 1820. I am involved outside of school. I have few extracurriculur activities, but a not a crowd of them. I have taken a total of 5 AP classes, and is taking 4 more next year, bud sadly recievied a score of a 3 on my AP government exam, which is the only exam i've recieved a score for yet. Cornell is ivy leuague, and I am very intimidated by that fact. Is there still some possibility that I can gain admittance? are there any other things I can do to improve my chances?

Hey I'm going to be attending Cornell this fall and trust me, I thought i didn't have a shot....I graduated high school ( a public high school) with a 4.86 gpa (weighted) and I took 4 AP courses (Literature, US History, World History, Spanish VI) as well as 2 UCONN-credit courses (History, Spanish V). As far as the AP exams go, i recieved a 4 on the US history test, opted not to take the world history one, and have yet to receive my scores for spanish and eng lit. My SAT scores were pretty good (M- 680, V-720, Written-750) but could have been better. And i hardly had any extracurriculars, but i did do one or two things that i made stand out on my application. For example, I was in a Diversity Club that planned a banquet that benefited the tsunami relief fund, so i emphasized that...also, I was in a gambling awareness committee that was featured in a court tv documentary, so i made that clear in my application....don't be afraid to brag on your application, it'll really help you. And its not too late to fill up on extracurriculars; i hardly had any my freshman and sophomore yrs, but I did little things here and there during my junior and senior yrs that really added up. All in all, I think you've got a pretty good shot of being accepted, but keep in mind, there are a lot of small things that factor into a college's decision that you cannot control (social class, nationality, residential location) so don't stress out! And yes, Cornell is an ivy league, but it is BY FAR the easiest one to get in to (Cornell acceptance rate- about 25%, Yale acceptance rate- about 10%) Just concentrate on your grades, don't catch the senioritis bug and write a sweet application essay that'll really impress the admissions committee (proofread and maybe go over it with a teacher but keep it personal and unique). Good luck, and I hope to see you in Ithaca sometime in the near future!
