My father is in Air Force and he was posted out to this place just 2 months ago when the session starts. I met a girl who's my classmate. She is a nice girl. She was very impressed with me. She asked me whether I could be her best friend. I said that it'll take time to decide as we don't even know each other properly. Now as the vacations ended she again asked me the question and I said I'll tell her 2morow. Now what should I do???? I don't want to be her best friend coz I am going to settle down somewhere else. I told her this reason but she said that we can chat in phones. Should I be her best friend?????
Pls tell me!! I have to tell her 2morow.

I can't tell her the truth. I don't want to break her heart.

Just tell her that you don't want a "long-distance" relationship. Chatting and calling are no substitute for having a friend there when you need them. The literal shoulder to cry on so to speak.

And I'm saying this from experience. My best friend and I live 1,000's of miles apart, and it's hard. Fortunately we did get to spend summers together as we grew up, but now I haven't seen her in over a yr., and believe me I've needed to have her here physically so many times I can't count them all. I've gone through alot, and when I've needed her to lean on, she can't be there. Not by choice, but by circumstance. Either way, you have to have yrs. of friendship behind you to get to the point that we have, it doesn't just happen overnight. We're 26 (me) and 25 (her) and have been friends for over 20 years. That's our whole lives.

Let this girl know that you can't ask someone to be your best friend, it just happens. I know that when we were little, I couldn't stand mine, but as the yrs. went by, we developed a bond that's proven to be unbreakable. I hope this helps you make your decision.

She sounds like she's a lonely girl, and having a 'best friend' long distance isn't going to help her. It sounds like you maybe don't really like this girl all that much, or you might be more apt to be her best friend, so the best thing you can do for her and yourself is tell her the truth. If you don't feel that close to her, let her know you can remain in touch, but aren't her best friend.

I've never had a best friend that I had to ask to be my best friend. usually friendships develop over time and through combined interests. If the girl is asking ppl to be her best friend, than I doubt she really knows how to be a friend.
