You have no idea what it takes to make a good marriage if you have to ask; so definitely...don't even think about marriage to anyone unless you are doing it for nothing more than desired misery.
Marriage is like a business arrangement; having someone take ownership over you; being responsible to something every waking moment of your life.
My advice is to get real. You should know for yourself what you are willing to accept and not need others opinions. If you don't like the fact that he does this it is a good sign that you are at least aware that she is on his mind a lot.
He isn't over her? He is constantly comparing the way he feels about her to you? He is having difficulty moving forward with You? He might innocently not be aware of what he is doing or why? Sounds like he isn't ready for a serious committment yet either.

I think that firstly you have to realize that there are going to be women that he finds attractive just like there are going to be men that you find attractive, but as long as he's not acting on it is the key. With that said, I dont like that he's thinking of other women and mentioning them like he's regretting or missing something...that sounds bad. I would hold off until I got some solid answers that say that he wants YOU and only YOU.

Sounds to me like he has hidden fantasies about the old neighbor. You may want to consider if it's only a fad for him, or if he's chasing other "cute" neighbors. Good luck, but you may want to find one who goes on about YOU after a few.

You should marry him only if you want a lifetime of regret!!! He's obviously not over her.
Do you really want to spend the rest of your days with an out-of-control guy who drinks and makes you feel like his consolation prize? I promise you it will only get worst.
Have some self-respect. Give dude his skates!!!

No way forget him if you will live a nice and pleasant life. I recognize his acting and I have had many friend who act the same way and the women who married them have had a hard life until they got a divorce and also after that.
