Do a little historical research - the Palestinians have always been like gypsy's a people with no land of their own. All the Arabic countries have either expelled them or persecute them.

Israel also treats Palestinians like second class citizens, but... wouldn't you if a sub-culture within your borders was constantly trying to take over your government and persecute you?

In 1949 when the UN established Israel, it originally set up two countries, one for the Palestinians, and one for the Jews. Britian owned the land so it was theirs to do with as they chose to.

What was offered up wasn't good enough for the Palestinians and the Arabic nations didn't want a Jewish state so they went to war and the Jews won the entire plot of land. So the Palestinians got what they deserved.

Note that much of the mess in Lebanon is also due to the Palestinians and war and terrorism they created. Lebanon used to be a very beautiful country and a leading financial center.

The Palestinian culture is a warring culture and always has been. Even if they had their own country they would want more.

Which doesn't make them that different from many other cultures come to think of it.

So..to answer their question, they have created their own problems, not the state or people of Israel.

Zionism is no longer the issue, the land is rightfully the property of Israel and their Jewish government. It was given to them by what were the previous owners. This is no different than if I signed over my car to you.

It depends on how you define zionism.

If by zionism, the right of Israel to exist; then yes, anyone who believes the memory of the 12 million slaughtered in the Holocaust is sustained by the existence of Israel would have to support zionism.

Also, if by zionism, you mean the right of Isreal to live free from the constant threat of terrorism and/or war, then anyone who believes in peace will support zionism.

On the other hand, if by zionism, you mean the extent to which civil and human rights in Israel have been curtailed to fight terrorism, then anyone who believes in free speech, the right to privacy, freedom of religion, and in freedom from fear, specifically the fear of torture...then it gets much harder for anyone with a conscience to support zionism as such.

Also, if you mean by zionism, the apartheid conditions Palestinians have been subjected to, including fear of warrantless detainment, arrest, interrogation, and torture;or if you mean the suppression of political rights and of economic opportunity that have made life for Palestinians so uncertain: in that case, anyone that cares for social justice will be troubled about the results of zionism.

So, zionism is a mixed bag of meanings. Depending on how you define it, you may support it or not or you may even support it sometimes, but not others. What is certain is that both sides are guilty of crimes against the the other. Each side wants to claim historical and moral supremacy to the other, but both sides have skewed the historical data...and both have behaved quite immorally at times. Clearly, neither side wants peace. Perhaps if some really powerful nation invaded the Middle East in that area with an eye towards taking away both the human rights and the land of both peoples...maybe then they could put their differences aside to fight a common enemy. But, that isn't going to happen, so the situation probably won't change any time soon..
