Yes, it most definitely is. The further ahead you book your ticket, the cheaper it will be. Also, if you can travel at off-peak hours (ie. not before 10am and after 8pm), it will much cheaper. Doing this, I managed a return ticket to London for only £12.

u dont book with national rail u book with the train company. and yes booking well in advance is cheaper....and avoid peak times (usually b4 9.30 am weekdays for most journeys) as this will make it even more expensive!
