Could be a few things.

1. Get your water tested. You could have hard water, and there could be something leaking in to the intake pipe causing the smell (or a pipe could be rusting).

2. Putting too much detergent in can hurt too. Try doing an extra rinse cycle to get everything out and see if that helps.

3. Make sure a pen or something else isn't caught somewhere in the washing machine and is adding to the water.

If none of that is helping, try adding something to the laundry to take the odor out. There's this stuff called Approach I was usin for a while before I got a new washing machine (ended up changing half the pipes etc too and that helped). I still add it now tho and it helps. It's this stuff called Approach. You can get it at www.approachit.net it's a great odor eliminator and it's water-based so there are no chemicals or anything so it's safe.

Good luck!

Your body needs to be clean too.

If your clothes were left in a damp washer too long (say overnight or a day) and started to rot a little, then they will always smell bad once they warm up. Also, some foreign made clothes are sprayed with a de-louser, and can smell for a couple of washings but usually goes away.

I would recommend using GAIN detergent (very fragrant).

Too much detergent, etc. will only worsen the problem. Supplement recommended detergent amount along with Borax. Add a cup or so of vinegar to the rinse water.

Outside of the great ideas others have had, maybe its as simple as leaving them in the washing machine too long before you dry them. Nothing makes me heave faster than someone whose clothes have "soured" and they dried them and wore them anyway. Another source is cigarette smoke. Even if its not you smoking its stale smoke scent gets everywhere and thus you never smell fresh and clean.

(No offense meant to any smokers!)

EITHER - there is stagnant water in the machine, remove and clean out the filter,
OR, the clothes have a lot of wool content, which always smells when wet.

Try washing the specific garmets with Nature's Miracle added into the wash. It's gotten some nasty chronic smells out of my laundry before! It's meant to get dog pee smells out of carpets, but it works for all kinds of smells.

don't dry your clothes in a dryer hang them out side or up in the house to dry. for some reason dryers can bring smells to clothes and if you left them air dry by hanging them it will get the smell out and smell like the soap you used. it works. i used to work with tires and that nasty smell would get in my clothes and no matter what i did or how much soap i used the only thing that worked was hanging them out side to dry.

Have your water tested - the smell could be coming from chemicals or minerals in your water supply. Your local health department can help with this.

It could be your water, but, it could be that youo let them stay in the washer too long after they wash too. Take them out as soon as they finish washing and wash them in Gain or Tide with Febreeze in it. That usually works.
