You can't change what you've done in the past, just fix it now. Prenatal vitamins are for your body. The baby will take all the nutrients it needs from you and the vitamins are to replenish your supply. But not taking them, especially in the first trimester could cause the baby to have some problems. Spina Bifida, Down Syndrome and Trisomy 18. It isn't a 100% given that it will happen but this isn't just about you. Its about a baby that is very helpless and dependent on you for everything. Call your doctor and ask them what you need to be concerned about.

I had to be taken off my prenatal vitamins for a period when I was pregnant with my son. He was very healthy. I would recommend that you get back on them however.

As for the person that told you that not taking them causes Spina Bifida - what a jerk. How dare they say that? Was it just to scare you? They need to look up the causes of Spina Bifida. It develops VERY early in pregnancy. Usually before the mother even knows that she is pregnant and therefore she is not taking prenatal vitamins. See the below link.

I wouldn't worry. Women had babies for centuries without the use of prenatal vitamins. But they do help make sure you and the baby get the proper nutrients during pregnancy, especially if your diet is lacking at all. So I would try to remember to take them from this point on. It's hard for me to remember pills so I keep them on the counter by the coffee so I will see them and take them first thing in the morning.

No, there is nothing to worry about. With my son who is now 15 months, I only took my prenatal pills for the first 4 months then I stopped. My son is a healthy little boy. He was 8 pounds 6 ounces.
With my little girl who is now 5 months old, I only took my pills for 2 months. She is a beautiful healthy little girl.
There is nothing to worry about.

It's alright as long as you eat healthy. I forgot my pre-natal vitamin when I went back home for a month on christmas - so I didn't take them at all. But I make sure I eat enough iron, vitamins and took folic acids until I got access to my vitamins again.

Not as you are eating well and healthy. But you should get back on them asap. They are supposed to help you to stay healthy and make sure you are getting all the vitamins that you need to grow a healthy baby.

good luck.
