U.S.A. is one of the greatest nations in all sports andactivities. Huge amounts of dollars are spent in all kind of athletic events and as a resut is the one of the top countries in every competition in every sport. Despite all these, in soccer they have made no progress and have nothing interesting to show. All over the world soccer is supposed to be the ¨king of all spots¨ and is therefore the most popular one. In U.S. people do not even understand the concept of it. Why? Isn´t it a paradox?

In the USA, football (soccer) isn't one of their major sports - it's a shame cos if it was they would be brilliant at it as they are a huge nation. It is getting more popular though, so in time who knows.

I have played soccer since i was 7 years old (now 25) and i have found that the majority of people do not understand the entire concept of the game. For most, it is the lack of understanding the strategy of the game. i have many friends who always ask "why are you passing it back?" and things of that nature. But with more and more Americans becoming interested in the game, more and more will begin to play and support all of their local clubs in the US. Over time it will grow from the bottom up like every other sport has in America. We just need the time and effort of all fans and players to make it "The Beautiful Game".

Not a paradox at all... The national sport of the USA has always been baseball, with basketball and (American) football also being highly popular team sports. We do play soccer here in the USA, but just aren't as fanatical about it as people in some other countries are.

i was wondering the same thing only the other day...

he trouble? there is not alot of advertising space in 90 minutes of football.

In American football, basketball and baseball, there are loads of breaks (...so LOADS of adverts) - it is not the same in football.

Most sports make their money and the players money from all the ads that are on ( which is why if a European visits America you will ALWAYS here them complain about the number and length of ads in the states)...

...soooo, unless they find a way for the players to stop before a throw-in and call out a product, or have them wearing shirts that have rolling adverts on them, you will not find the sort of financial backing that you would for the other popular sports in the USA>

...and that's a shame.

Americans can't grasp the concept of not being able to use your hands in the game (the name "foot"ball for me should be a big give away but nevermind) as a result it is not considered key or significant enough to warrent interest, not only from the Government but also from supports and prospective players as a result, no one comes to watch the games and the teams don't have enough money to invest in future players or improving current ones. Long story short its a vicious cycle, they need to invest money for people to show interest however before they can invest money fans need to show more interest...

I was watching a football (soccer) game in a bar and there were 2 Americans next to me and I was listening to what they were saying. Hoping to hear who they were going to bomb next, but that's a different story. Anyway they were saying that there are not enough goals scored in the game. Which says to me that they don't have a very long attention span. However I have a very good American friend who loves football, so I would say it is like anything else in life and each to their own.

the u.s. would have a better soccer league if it had more fans. fans watching and going to games as well as buying merchandise generates revenue. the more money u.s. soccer has the more they can do with the youth and eventually they can be as good as every one else.
