I like Discover & Scientific American - both have interesting shorter articles on a wide range of topics across the sciences.

My mom subsribed to Smithsonian and Discover when we were growing up. I sincerely believe it boosted our intelligence, especially my older sister who loved science with a passion. We'd read them together cover to cover each month. Smithsonian has so many little tidbits of information that are easily digested ~ at least it used to.
For kids National Geographic WORLD is phenomenal as well.

I like Discover & National Geographic, someone also mentioned the Smithsonian and I agree with that. That's a really interesting mag.
