You could cover the air vent with some kind of wire mesh. Something that won't block the airflow, but will keep the birds out. My mother was having problems with squirrels getting into her vents from the top of the house, and that is what the pest control people did. I've thought about doing that when a bird came down my chimney, but that hasn't happened again.

A staple gun and some wire screen should do the trick , if you have an attic and can reach it from the inside would be best. Also you may find air vents available that would prevent this if you decide to replace the old ones. Check with your local hardware store.

If you are talking about the air vent in your home, you can put metal mesh over the vent. It will still let the air in, but keep the birds out.

The best thing to do is to install a removable screen at the exit of the vent, but you must check the screen periodically to see that lint, dust or other particles are not blocking it which could cause overheating of certain equipment, like clothes dryers, etc.

depending on the type of vent, buy a bird block, they sell them at most home improvement stores, if you cant find one for your vent just buy some screen and tack it in place around the vent
