Everything was color-coordinated, and the shorts were just above my knee, (not too revealing!) but I got some strange looks! Could it be that my fashion taste is too advanced for most people? What other reason could it be that people's mouth's opened when I walked past them in the aisle?

Gosh-Darn folks! I am just having fun-bless
the people who answered this and tried to
make me feel better (like I HAD REALLY worn knee highs w/shorts to church). I have
better sense than that! Besides, it would not have gone with my Rhinestone Tube-Top!

Well, see that was the problem, color coordinated.

It is only fashionably acceptable if you wear black nylons with white heals.

Wearing high heels with shorts seems to most people to be sort of slutty (for lack of a better word). Plus the fact that you wore knee highs with shorts...now that's a little strange, sorry. I'd suggest that if you wear shorts to church, you wear them with full nylons, not knee highs, and flats or nice sandals only...or just kick out shorts entirely, as they can be hard to dress up.

It just looks odd, that's all. If you had worn thigh highs, then, it may have gone better then with knee highs. Maybe you were at a church that commonly does not wear shorts!
I went to my mom's church were no women can wear pants! Really, you either have to wear skirts or dresses.
Or, maybe, you just looked so good that they were jealous of you.

What you wear should not matter in Church. God does not judge the clothes that you wear. As for the looks you got from others, just bust out your confidence a little bit more and give them a look to kiss your a**.

Churchgoers are always the first to judge anyone else. They are not perfect, nor does that make them good people. I hate people like that. God is the only judge.

Can we say TACKY? That is such a fashion no no. You never ever wear knee highs when wearing a skirt or shorts! They are made to be worn with trousers only so the top band of them doesn't show!

optimistic you could! without looking tacky? optimistic you could! Use 3-inch-above the knee length khaki shorts or khaki capri and positioned on it with closed toe heels rather of a buissness skirt. once you're speaking about going clubbing or being in a hiphop video, no, you wont look tacky because anybody will be wearing that.

I imagine I would have been wondering what you were thinking. lol But then, I'm one of those people who really doesn't care what anybody wears to church. The main thing is you attended, right? I seldom go any more but when I do, I wear jeans. I have tattoo's and I know it would make my mother uncomfortable for me to come in there with them on display. So to keep her happy, I wear whatever I can to hide them. You just wear whatever makes you comfy girl. Give them something to talk about in the "Amen Corner" lol

You were outside the norm of fashion. Therefore people scoffed.

High-heels with shorts? Not my first choice. Knee highs exposed? They're not appealing.

hey, theres nothing wrong with that if you like it, people are so close minded these days and its hard for them to accept what's not "normal" to them. i am pursuing a career in fashion and have been told if i dont dress a certain way, i wont do well. Thats bullshit, dress however you please, that doesnt matter. As you probably already have heard, "what matters is on the inside", and i think its true. props to you for being different!
