Actually this is true. The Hurricane Hunters, an air wing of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration routinely flies P-3 Orion and C-130 Hercules Aircraft into the eyes of hurricanes to do weather observations. They also commonly report seeing birds in the eyes of hurricanes.

You'd have to fly through the roughest part of the hurrican to get there. So, no, I don't think you could fly there. However, the eye of the hurricane is the calmest spot of the hurricane. The winds are swirling all around this calm spot. Check out accuweather.com/hurricane for more hurricane info.

It is not uncommon to see birds flying in the center of a hurricane.... In the reast of the hurricane it is not uncommon to see other things flying around either.... houses, lumber, shingles, that sort of thing

Even you can drive to the center only if you escape the force around the center{eye}. There is no difference between the eye and normal wind speed but it is virtualy impossible to get there safely even if a plane can into the center it wiil be caught before reaching the eye by the fast winds around it.
