Ok, I just took a course in Political Theory and Machiavelli was the first guy that we read about. We actually read an exerpt of "The Prince", but I think I remember enough to answer some of your questions.

1. This may sound really stupid, but we learned that the main reason that Machiavelli wrote "The Prince" was because he wanted a job as an advisor to a Prince. This book is sort of a self-help guide for princes LOL. He thought if he showed the world that he knew how to be a prince, maybe he could get a job as an advisory.

2. I suggest looking at Spark Notes for this one. The site is www.sparknotes.com if you don't know already.

3. We really didn't touch up on this area....but refer to Spark Notes. It should have something about this.

Sorry, but for the rest of the questions, refer to Spark Notes. I honestly don't remember or haven't studied the rest of these questions. Good luck with everything!!! I also suggest reading the book if you want to know it!!!
