Noo we werent monkeys...
it was said that we evovled from monkeys in other words we were ancestors. We humans look like monkeys, even a long time ago, because we share the common ancestors with the monkeys... It is believed that not too long ago (compared to the life history of the earth), a certain type of old ape started to evolve toward what ended up as humans today, but some of them also evolved toward the ape direction and gave rise to the apes of today. It is not hard to imagine why we look so similar to apes since really we have not had a time long enough to really diverge our appearance since we originated from the same ancestor.

Theoretically, monkeys and humans could have shared common ancestry, but we did not evolve from monkeys. In short, monkeys and humans probably evolved from an early being known as a primate.
That being settled, the problem then lies in whether we should even consider the theory of evolution seriously.
You see, in America, evolution is not recognised as science, because it poses very obvious problems in reconcilations with the teachings of the bible.
If evolution proves to be more than just a theory, and the bible is more than just a work of a hyperactive scribe, Adam and Eve were probably primates.
Otherwise, you can still enjoy sitting on swings and munching on a banana.

The earliest known ancestors of modern humans might have reproduced with early chimpanzees to create a hybrid species, a new genetic analysis suggests.
Based on the study of human and chimp genomes, the scientists believe the split between the human and chimpanzee lines occurred much more recently than previously thought—no more than 6.3 million years ago and perhaps as recently as 5.4 million years ago.
Human and chimpanzee ancestors began branching apart on the primate evolutionary tree some 9 million years ago, but there are significant gaps in the fossil record. The new analysis suggests that a full split, which scientists call speciation, wasn't achieved for nearly 4 million years and might have occurred twice.
The study was published online today by the journal Nature.
Timeline of Human Evolution
The timeline of human evolution is long and controversial, with significant gaps. Experts do not agree on many of the start and end points of various species. So this chart involves significant estimates.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Going back in time
Researchers from Harvard Medical School and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard matched sequences of the human genome to the same regions of the genetic code of chimpanzees and several other primate species. DNA is made up of sequences of chemical bases, labeled A, T, G, and C. They compared the codes, letter by letter, and noted where there was a divergence.
Based on an estimated relative mutation rate, they calculated how long it would take to accrue the mutations and determined that millions of years of genetic divergence led to an initial speciation around 6.3 million years ago. From start to finish, complete speciation spanned a much longer time range than in any other modern apes. There is no evidence that humans and monkeys had a common ancestor.
Every fossil hominid that has been found is clearly an ape/monkey or clearly a human.
There are many people who have a philosophical (religious) belief in evolution, and they try to interpret the evidence to support their beliefs.
Some have gone to the extent of fraud - e.g. Piltdown man
or close to it e.g. Java Man
Even the Natural History Museum in London deliberately midleads - its model of 'Lucy' has human-like hands and feet, when it is known that australopithecines had ape-like hands and feet.

We evolved from primates, so we are in the monkey family! Our ancestors looked a lot like monkeys, but were more ape like (some people have not evolved too far past the ape stage).

Personally, I was never a monkey. However, the human race is decended from animals that eventually became the animals that we know as monkeys - it simply took hundreds of millions of years of evolution.

in the process of evolution, the human race might come from the same branch as monkeys did.. but you in particular were born human

No, we were never monkeys, though we may have branched out from, developed out of a branch of monkeys. Our ancestors, however, may have been monkeys.
