The definition of "native" is that a specific creature is born in a place, or alternately that a particular species originates in a certain place. Therefore a "native american" would be anyone born in America, or alternately any species that originated in America.

The human species originated in Africa; so that part gets thrown out. That leaves being born in America; so there is no difference between the people that were indigenous to the Americas when the European settlers arrived, and those born in the Americas since that time.

There is no difference between this distinction, and saying that a member of the D.A.R. is somehow superior to a native born U.S. citizen whose parents immigrated to this country after WWII. Both show an unwarranted prejudice.

It's true that being born in America makes you a native.

Native American is a name used for the tribes that were here when Europeans first discovered America was here. Maybe that's why the term confuses you.
It also has nothing to do with your question.
You want to know about class distinction in the U.S.

We are all equal in this country.

If you think you come from an inferior place then it's your own personal lack of self esteem that keeps you in a lower class not other people's prejudices.

Why do you think being born anywhere makes you Superior? You are the same person no matter where you are born. You appearto be a very racist person. You want to hyphanate everyone. If I were born in a penthouse in the Waldorf Astoria....would i be better than someone born on the 4th floor. NO. Native Americans were the victim of the white man . (PERIOD). They are no different than anyone else and I have never seen one compare themselves to anyone. What is the big deal?

Indian was not given because columbus thought he landed in india... that's not historically true. It derived from "in dios" which he called natives meaning something about godlike.

You are right, Native American really does group all those born in the Americas. More correct descriptions would be "native nations, first nations, indigenous americans" but if you want to get to the nitty gritty, the most correct way to address the indigenous people of the lands is to call them by their individual nation names (ie; Tsalagi, not cherokee or Onondowagah not Seneca).

I am in your same position. But what a think, is the colonizers feel guilty because they slaughter and extint some native America Indians (I mean all America, not only North America). Robbed their treasure, bring sickness, trow them from their land, took aways their religion exint their source of food and clothing, and endanger the environment. Usually native American, were very Eco friendly and were wiser and better than most people in Europe.

First you asked a question, then gave us a history lecture, then ended with a statement, which makes me wonder if you were more interested in racial injustice or just trying to show us all how amazingly intelligent you are. And to answer the question: We are all equal. Morality depends on the individual and is completely unrelated to race.

at the risk of seeming socially weerd...
i think neither one superior...
but i myself prefer latinos to native americans... then again, i'm more used to the latino culture than the native american one...
buth either way, no one is superior to anyone... we're all equal yet still unique...
don't let other people's opinions bother you... the only opinions that really matter are your own of yourself and the positve opinion of you by those you hold dear...
negativity is bad no matter who it's directed at...
so don't bother yourself with anything negative...
and that's the positive message behind the native american way of life... but sadly, they do tend to be imperfect in their following their own advice...
but that's the extent of my native american knowledge...
hope i helped you out...

Would you prefer us to go back to calling them something thats completely inaccurate like "Indians", which was the misnomer created by Europeans who thought they had landed in India?

I KNOW! We'll call them by their original tribal affiliations! :D Get memorizing people, theres only a few thousand. But hey, if we can be "German" or "English" or "Chinese", why not right?

Who ever said they were morally superior? Having morals has nothing to do with where you were born or where you live.
