I would talk to them and try to keep them company as much as possible - if the person has reached out and told someone, it's likely to be a sign that they don't want to commit suicide. However, even people who reach out and tell someone do attempt or commit suicide. I'd also involve someone else that could help. Depending on the age of the person in question, I'd talk to their parents or someone else they trust. There are several hotlines out there too for crisis - here's a couple I found with a quick Google search.

Suicide...is the cowards way out.
If a person is really going to do it? They would. They would not tell anyone.
One that would tell you of contemplating suicide is wanting to experience your reaction. Kind of wanting to know what impact his/her death would be on the persons in their live without really doing it.
Sometimes...death... seems better or easier then facing life's problems.
Kind of like you not eating ,at all, because you don't want to eat the brussel sprouts.
Eat the brussel sprouts first. Then you can enjoy the rest of the meal.
Get your friend to find out what the problem/s that is causing this death feeling. Know them. Understand them. And fix them.
Then he/she can enjoy the rest of their life.
Suicide is for cowards and losers.

Try to see why they want to do this, and try to talk to them and explain that committing suicide will not fix anything, all it will do is create pain for all of their friends and family.

not much you can do...they are reaching out to you. Be supportive, listen, and remind them of the good things and how perminate death is. Help (go with) them to supportive group in your community. And then you have done your part. Killing yrself is actually very selfish... you hurt the people left behind because that is yr intent.

Talk to them, try to help them in anyway you can, try to get help from other friends and the friends family members to get treatment for the person. It's not normal to talk about killing yourself. Good Luck
