Very little as long as the oil companies stay in control and discourage alternative fuels and research. Oh sure they claim that they are looking for alternatives. Well how come they have been claiming this for what 20-30 years and we still see nothing from them? Why would they really research or want something to come to the market that would put them out of business?

Depends on whether it is a good product or not. The reality is that - this has been the case in all history - only good products survive.
If you want to have any idea if there are good alternatives available for petrol of gas you will have to contact professors at a university specialised in this subject.
This is a subject that a lot of universities have invested a lot of money in. This question is too specialised for a forum like this.

Hemp oil. Not only for food, but hemp for food and clothing too.
It's renewable. It doesn't have the THC content that marijuana has. You just need to get antiquated USA politicians and religious fanatics educated about the potential of this harmless crop.
