how do i get rid of aol messenger and then put it back on under a different id name?

1) Go to the Control Panel (accessible from the Start menu)
2) Go to "Add or Remove Programs"
3) Select "AOL Instant Messenger" and have it removed.

After you do this, re-install the software from the original setup file you downloaded if you still have it. If not, just go download it again. This will do what you ask.

Another more difficult but equally effective method is to type "regedit" from the Run command under the start menu. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > America Online > AOL Instant Messenger > CurrentVersion > Users and just delete all the user names. If you wanted to delete EVERYTHING (buddy lists, saved location data, etc) I'd just recommend doing it the first way.

It's good practice to mess around with the Registry though; it can be dangerous but it also gives you much more control and understanding over how the Windows OS works.
