I agree with the sentiments of "you should do something you enjoy". Life is too damn short to be doing something for someone other than yourself. Who said that we have to work AND be miserable? I know you probably feel some familial obligation to remain where you are at because it's family...but on the same side, because it's family, they should understand your wanting to do something that makes YOU happy.

A family business is an opportunity, that holds alot of potential for your future. Have you ever thought of re-thinking your frustrations in a different manner? Try thinking as a business professional but drafting your frustration into creation. Make yourself a journal so to speak and write down what it is that makes you frustrated about your job, and re-invent ways to change it for the positive. What would you do if you could to change it, that would be business productive. Perhaps there is knowledge you could be lacking, that is yet to be learnt, if so, your father is your teacher, and perhaps hard to convince himself on how to grade you from A+ to an average C, rate yourself and decide how you could achieve an A+ if you're not already there! If you are then bravo! However, it's hard to maintain at such a high grade, but with this, does require a lot of responsibility and patience. Perhaps, you need something as simple as vacation time to be refreshed. Hope that was helpful, good luck!

The question is whether you live to work or work to live. If you're making a nice living with the familiy business, keep with it. Do other family members find joy with it? Perhaps you've just been in your position too long. Is there another position you can try within the company?

If you think you're undervalued or if you can easily pursue a job outside of the family business, give it a try. Chances are, your family will take you back if you need to fall back into your old job.

The reason for your hate is not known. But mind it businesses cannot be set up overnight. Whaever business you want to set up for you will take years to establish and that too after giving you lots of jerks, financial loss and other problems. And you may also not be able to leave that having lot of financial implications although you might have tired of that.

The present business of your father is quite an established business and gives you a readymade career without any problem. However, if you have ideas for some other business better switch over to that business by and by after starting the same as a side business for some time untill the same is fully established enabling you an easy switchover.

I can't answer in specifics cos i dont know enough - need more details. However, there are times when u should stay or go. Really, its about what best for you and others. You hate it, so you should go but sometimes we may discover the cause of the hatred is not neccessarily the job itself but other factors which should be dealt with directly and not indirectly by dumping the job. Cos a problem unsolved but which we run away will always be with us. Though sometimes too its good to run away and let time and distance heal us.

Well, I guess that depends on whether you are living your life for your family or do you want to be happy and live your own life. If they love you, they will support your decision even if they are hurt.

You have to do something that you enjoy.

Work= monotonous labor that is a chore
Career= labor that is enjoyed and sought after to make one feel better about themselves
