Four-part question. -(1) A lot of people around the world cannot conceive that a small country like Portugal can possibly be that good in football and so "Portugal and their success in football cannot be taken seriously, can it ?" -- Do you think that this is at least slightly the case ? (2) One British TV channel seemed to JUSTIFY every red and yellow card against Portugal and disapprove of every card given by the referee against the Holland guys. I wonder why the media is so much in favour of Holland. Ideas there ? -- ALSO, ( 3) WHY did Holland START all that fouling ? It cannot possibly be accidental, could it ? What, accidents ONLY against our stars ? (Ronald only a few minutes) !! (4) When did you last see Portugal behave like that ? NEVER ? Your views, Please ?

Carla, HI -- I hope you read this: You said "As for Holland, the place for poor loosers and ***holes is not in the WC" and I would like to add their place after that behaviour should be in the Water Closet. LOL (probably not very funny but I thought I'd say it. By the way I am 100% Portuguese too. Portugal Portugal Portugal

"Gaurab N" --- "... so easily !" The other guy was caressing Figo's face in contempt !!! The dutch were merely FURIOUS because for the first time in their footballing career they did not have the refereee to help them !! You can't go round doing that to peole's faces and expect not to get a head between his eyes, LOL !!!

"Emma" - not enough space here to tell you everything that happened. I interpret what happened like this: Dutch are used to having referees helping them. Referee did NOT feel like helping this time. Dutch therefore cannot win without refs help. Therefore, ceheating began. The Portuguese who more aware of that biased against us, realized they were going to lose to a team cheating, and since they were going to lose, they were gonna go down fighting, so they started to retaliate !!! Itis too much, Emma. Thos Dutch and thier cheating referees !!! But int he end Portugal knocked them out !!!

question 1 - portugal are a very talented. they were in the finals or euro 2004 for christ's sake! and they are brothers of the worlds greatest footballing nation, brasil.
question 2 - oooo i wonder which one it was LOL!! but anywayz 2 ur question.......... they did that bcoz they know the only way they can make the english feel safe for the match against portugal is making it seem like the portuguese are the bad people.
qeustion 3 - it is only a grudge that holland hold for only beating portugal once since their previos meetings. and beating them in EURO 2004. why did they start.......well bcoz they thought their only way of winning was by provoking the portuguese and eliminating the key players of the squad. but they could've done otherwise by putting van nistelrooy but van basten was too stubborn and wouldn't sub him no matter what.
question 4 - Um yeah NEVER!! it certainly got old times stirred up again btween those two. Deco's 1st yellow card wasn't fair sneijder should have got it 4 pushing petit to the ground!
But at least they won! as for saturday......... Portugal ganharý! E bata Inglaterra! Portugal prevalecerý, como sempre! Venha em Portugal!

1. Portugal is small but we have always had good players and we still do. Besides, we have team spirit which is always important.
2. The first red card showed to Costinha was correct. But the one he gave Deco was unfair...
As for the dutch, the first guy expelled should have been when he hit Cristiano Ronaldo. He went for the kill...
3. Holland started all that fouling because they are poor loosers and because they wanted to take out the key players in the portuguese team...
4. Portugal played very well and they deserved to go to the quarters. As for Holland, the place for poor loosers and ***holes is not in the WC

2) The commentators have a strong Euro-centric bias -- like the way some of them talk about the African teams, it's like they still have a colonialist mindset and arrogance that is simply appalling. Perhaps the Netherlands is somehow considered more European than Portugal?
3) Could someone tell me how it all started? The foul on Reynaldo, yes? But what then? I came in late (last 23 minutes :-( and the first thing I saw was a white shirt lunging towards a burgundy....
4) I couldn't believe it, still can't. Portugal is my team and I'm just gutted that Deco won't be playing in the next round. Viva el Figo. ;-)

You don't know, really? why, that's simple:
ALL was set for the Dutch to win (they never lost any of the 4 matches refereed by lousy Valentin). Proof, that violent injury against Cristiano R that had to be punished in RED. Putting CR out of the game was the Dutch's no. 1 instruction.
Just think. Holland is close to Germany. 3/4 in the stadium were Dutch. The Dutch remaining in competition was a sure guarantee of FULL STADIA. It all boils down to that. Thats' why Germany will most probably be at the final. Who wants faraway teams playing in empty stadia?

i agree - later on in the game, both teams got rowdy and deserved the cards.. but at the very beginning - HOLLAND was out of control..
and as for people in disbelief that portugal could get through.. prejudice will always be lurking in the world..that will take a long time to change... all developed countries( esp the US of A) tend to presume that countries that are less economically progressive than them can easily be beaten at sports.
well, these so called 'third world' countries are showing them how its really supposed to be done at the world cup..

From what I saw some of the refs decisions were diabolical. As for Portugal being a 'small' country - England is a lot smaller and were not bad at football. In fact, I heard the Portuguese are already booked on a flight home Friday night.......................
COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Oh common!!!!!!! u seem pretty much biased in favor of Portugal. The second yellow to Deco was quite unfair. But, others were okay. U saw Luis Figo played so well. any player of his kind and experience is not suited to lose temper so easily
