This is important. I just found out that my best friend is moving away and it is going to make me miserable. He isn't leaving right away so I have a little time. Can you all come up with some nice, fun, witty, great ideas I can try and con him to stay here?
Thanks so much for your help.

I am far from "young" -- and I do want him happy - just need him in my life is all. He is making a mistake and I guess he just has to figure that out later. But thanks anyway.

First of all...are you two a couple or just friends? If you're just friends, which it sounds like according to what you wrote, it really won't be that easy getting him to stay here if he's that serious about moving. Do yourself a favor....tell him exactly how you're feeling! Tell him you're going to be miserable without him. If he still has intentions of leaving after that, then there isn't much you can do. (Probably not the answer you wanted.....but!) In time, he might realize that moving wasn't the best idea in the first place, and he'll be back! Hope everything works out the way you want it to!

Your probably young and this will happen a lot in your life. If your friend is moving with his family then there's no way you can 'con' him into staying. If he's moving by himself then he must have reasons why he wants to relocate and you shouldn't try to change his plans. If your a true friend just let him go, enjoy the time you have left with him. Now you will have a penpal or someone to visit on vacations. His moving could be opening up a whole world of new and exciting possibilities for you. Take advantage of it.

This situation hits close to home. My son is moving to another state to live with his mother. His girlfriend doesn't want him to go, but knows he is going to anyway. All you can do is wish your friend the best, and then have a good cry when he leaves. If you try to con him into staying, he may end up resenting you in the long run, and then you've lost him forever. Don't think of it as your friend moving away, but as a place you may get to visit if you travel to see him.

Well first you've got to figure out if it's in his best intrest to stay here. If, however, you are absolutly set on him staying you should talk to him. That way he won't feel tricked and won't resent the "con". It will also allow you to figure out how to keep in touch if he has to move.

If you have a true friendship, then you will still be friends after he leaves. You can chat on the internet and visit each other from time to time ...

You could perhaps tell him the plus's of the current area, and how he would not have them anymore if he moved away. Possibly, you could inform him about weather, and how where he would be residing would not be as good as where he currently resides.

The best thing to do is let him go. If you even could "convince" him to stay he would end up resenting you for you.

If you're a real friend, don't "con" him into doing anything. He may be as upset as you are, but he has his own reasons why he has to go.
