I love Sydney (named my oldest daughter that), and have always loved Alexandra as a name. If you want to go with Alex, you might consider giving her a more formal name like Alexandra, Alexis, Alexa, Alexandria (there are lots to choose from), and then letting Alex be her nickname. That way, when she gets older, she can have to choice of using either.

I like them both. Alex can be either a boy's or a girl's name. It's a short for Alexander (boy's name) and Alexandria (girls' names)

Both names are good. Alex can stand for Alexander when you have a boy, and if you have a girl, it can stand for Alexandra. Cool names, by the way. :)

Sydey and Alex are fine names - just a bit common for my liking. Alex is unisex these days, short for either Alexander (m) or Alexandra/Alexandria (f).
