yes! technicalliy, anything can be a sport. "Sport" is just more than one person playing a certain game or activity against another person, in a non harmful way of course. The activity must be governed by rules. so yeah, dancing is a sport - there are tons of dnace leagues and competitions around the world

I also dance and when asked the same question I tell them that dancing is my activity. Sometimes I get the eye rolling and once in a while I get that isn't a sport, but most of the time I get the " I wish I could dance".

Dancing is usually classified under the heading of Performing Arts. So, when people ask you which sport you do, tell them, you aren't in traditional sports, rather you participate in the performing arts as a dancer. =)
*Note: The fact that I strongly believe dancing is a performing art isn't to say I don't believe it is athletic or physically demanding. Dancing is very physically demanding, and I realize that. It has become a sport or more competetive in our society through avenues like Ballrooom Dancing Competitions and so forth, as well as television shows like "Star Search," "American Idol," and "So You Think You Can Dance." Not to mention the competitive nature of the BBoy and BGirl and their dancing competitions in urban areas. I totally admire and respect all forms of dance and acknowledge their athletic requirements. But to me, it'll always be an art form. =)

If it is done as a competition, then yes it can be considered a sport.
Heck, if they can call NASCAR a sport and a horse an athlete then sure why can't you call dancing a sport.

I imagine you could call it a sport because it exerts energy and people do win trophies for it.
Personally, maybe only ballroom dancing which has a recognized organization, a circuit, and rule book would be a sport.

Dancing is a competition. I wouldn't call it a sport. It's more of an art in which you express yourself.
