A place to have drinks?

Their name, "Pub" is just British, for Bar or Saloon.

Some serve food. Such as kidney pie, a British favorite.

You need to be more specific - this doesn't actually make sense. Do you mean why are there pubs in London? Because people like somewhere near them to go for a drink and there's lots of people in London to patronise them.

Do you mean what is the theme? Lots of different types, from posh wine bars to working men's locals.

the idea of pubs in london is to provide a place to socialise, meet and interact with other people within a enviroment where class and statue should not matter, however the truth is they are a place to relax and chill or get very drunk
