I run Windows XP Professional. I have have lost my drives for my cd-r and cd-rom. I have tried device manager, uninstall, add new hardware. In my computer it does not shows drives e or d. I have two 80g hard drives each are partition into 2 drives. I think I need the ms dos command to load the drives, not sure though.

Assuming that these extra drives are partitioned and formatted, Windows should automatically find and configure drives for use. Before you "load the drives" (which, can't be done, if you follow the above...) check the Bios to be sure that the drives are being found by the system.

You can find the drives and assign drive letters by going to
Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management
Find the Drives section and assign the letters as needed.

Restart the computer and hit DELETE (or F2) to get into the BIOS. See if the CD drives appear there.

Then check the Device manager. Does the CD drive appear there? What drive letter is it assigned too?
