Any business you start will need some kind of investment. I started a cleaning business once. (House cleaning) I had to buy cleaning products and then I put flyers up so people would know about me. I landed a job at a factory cleaning. I wasn't insured which costs money also, so I had to work through a temp service to do that job. That part sucked because I would have made twice the money if I were insured.
I now run a karaoke and D.J. business. There is always money needed to be put into that. New music, replace broken mics and so on.
You need to spend money to make money. Always investigate the business you want to start. It sucks to start a business that is not needed.

No. But if you rephrase the question slightly, say, "is any business possible without ADDITIONAL investment," then the answer may well be yes, because you start the business with resources you already have. Say, you live in a beach town, so you start renting a room in your house to vacationers. You have a small shop in your garage, so you start fixing your neighbors' lawn mowers and bicyces. You have a computer and Internet access, so you start designing Web sites for local companies. You live near a lake and like fishing, so you post a notice in a local hotel that you are available as a fishing guide.

I suppose it's possible, but it probably won't be much of a business. Will you be selling something that you get free? Will you run a business without a storefront, or supplies? Will you be able to pay your expenses - utilities, rent, payroll, etc - out of sales right away? If you have a business idea that can do that, you've got a potential gold mine, if it can function on a large scale. But I think that it more likely that someone else would have thought of it before you, and would be doing it already.

It depends on how you define investment. There are service businesses that would require little or no capital to start and would require the investment of time and energy. So, no, it is impossible to start a business without investment.
