Assuming D is diameter, calculate the volume of the tank, subtract the volume of the cylinder and convert the remaing volume to gallons. There are 128 cubic inches (0.0741 cubic feet) per gallon.
you do the math, that is obviously the intent of your assignment

Without the whole dimensions of the tank, you can not calculate it. You have 2 dimensions for each, but no definition for which component they are. A cylinder has a radius/diameter and a depth/length. The tank can be a cube, cylinder, etc. telling us its depth and length doesn't due us much good.

Volume of Bigger tank minus volume of smaller tank
2^2 pi * 5 = 20 pi
1.5^2 pi * 5 = 11.25 pi
9.75 pi = 30.63 ft^3 - Turns out to be
229 Gallons

The volume is 11π cubic feet, which is approx. 34.5575 ft³, which is approx. 59715 in³. One gallon is 231 in³, thus your solution is 258.51 gallons.
