enough to feel good Id say, or keep your color. Usually a few times a week is ok, make that three. Anything more and you're damaging your skin beyond what your shooting for, and thats to keep your initial tan from peeling too much. salons hasten the tanning process in a damaging way if abused.
I would also use a healthy oil like pure coconut or even better, almond oil. They are already realizing that these tanning oils can encourage the growth of melanoma (skin cancer.)

Never!
tanning beds effects tanning by producing UVA and UVB rays artificially, in the same composition as in the sunlight but from close quarters. But over exposure to these rays can raise serious health issues. In fact, this is the disadvantage of tanning beds, sometimes to the extent of outweighing its advantages. Scientific studies have confirmed that both rays affect the skin in a genetic level and are the primary cause for skin cancer including the deadly melanoma. Long term exposure also causes other skin damages such as wrinkles, age spots and change in texture and thickness, caused by the drying out of skin and weakening of connective tissues. Also, it has been found out that a person lying in a tanning bed is likely to stand radiation levels to the eye as much as 100 times than in the outside sunlight.
So, comparing both sides, the pros and cons, it can be concluded that tanning beds have more disadvantages than advantages. Therefore, it is better to avoid it in the first place, and if you are itching for some summer glow, go for some tanning products such as a bottle of skin tanner. After all, that does not spoil your skin and hence your health.

I have heard that if you go two days in a row and then every other day after that, you will get the best results. This is my first year tanning, but that is how I have been doing it. I am very pale skinned and I rarely tan, but I can see a difference following this pattern. Once you hit your goal, you only need to go once or twice a week to keep it up. Use lots of lotion to keep your skin from drying out or else you will end up with darker spots where you have dry skin patches.

To start with I think it's every two or three days. And then when you get to the desired colour just maintain it by going once a week. Use tanning lotions and moisturiser to get the best out of your sessions.
The Salon should set up a plan for you, or a time schedule at least. The amount of sessions and the time each session also depends on your skin type and colour. Go into a salon, it really is quite cheap. you can pay for one session at a time, or in bulk.
Give it a try.

Never, take a 15 minute walk outside every day. You'll tan evenly and more slowly and it will be safer. Just remember, tanning is what is done to animal hides to finish them for use in the making of purses, clothing, shoes, etc. Do you really want to "tan" yourself?
