Guys get assigned numbers during spring training. Usually the lowest of the numbers are all taken by the guys that are already on the roster, the higher numbered jerseys are given to guys trying to make the team. Baseball players are very superstitious, and these guys probably kept their spring training number after they made the big league team due to this fact. My very first baseball jersey when I was 5 years old had a #2 on it, and I kept that number on every jersey I ever had through High School ball...

Naww my friend wears 57 u just get adapted toa number or u do good in a number and u dont let it go. for taguchi its probably some ritual thingy

The only player in sport that I know of that wears a number dedicated something is Jaromir Jagr. His number 68 is to dedicated the men and women who lost their lives when the Russians Invade Czechoslovakia in 1968
