diffusion is natural mixing of particle .if u have reddish brown bromine gas in test tube with another test tube above the gas u will find that the red colouration of bromine gas will soon spread to the test tube on the top.in same way if liquid ink is left in bottom of teat tube full of water it will spread evenly throughout the water.a solid crystal of pottasium manganate if left in water will also naturally spread throughout by diffusion,but its colour spread more slower than gases or liquids.diffusion can only take place if matter is made of particles.if matter had been coninuous there would not have been enough space for liquid and solid to mix together.
diffusion take place much more quicker w gases than w liquids or solids.evidence for this is way smells travel.gases r generally lighter than liquids and solids therfore their particles move more quickly.in fact rate of diffusion is inversly related to mass of particle.therefore a dense gas like carbon dioxide with heavy molecules diffuse more slowy than lighter gas hydrogen

i cant explain its too huge i will give you a eg:-When you spray perfume you get the smell first sometime later if you go a bit far still you get the smell this is due to the movement of vapours from higher concentration to lower concentration.
Osmosis,imbibition these are all related to it
