I too was in class, but as a teacher when I found out. The class I was teaching did not know and I did not tell them at that time because I did not want to add to any panic while our school's emergency plan was put into effect. After lunch, most of the school had heard about it, and I started my next two classes with discussions on the topic and what was being done that day. By the time my planning period came around, we had angry and scared parents coming in to sign out kids, and I helped deal with the crisis in the office.
Strangely enough, I didn't cry about it until a week later when I found out that an acquaintance from college had been killed at the WTC site. Later that fall, I got to see Alan Jackson in concert, and when he did "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning?", it was the singularly most moving experiene I have ever shared with a large group of people.

I live an hour from NYC, and I was in English class when the first plane hit. I was on my way to work from school when the second plane hit and I really thought that the radio show DJs were joking around until they put the President on the air making a statement. I was around the corner from my office when the plane hit the Pentagon, and I remember pulling over on the side of the highway thinking "WTF is going on?!?!" I remember we had totally limited phone use - cell phones were sporadic at best. I remember it was a gorgeous day and eerily calm afterwards.
If you remember on the news reports about the two planes that hit WTC - how they almost collided mid-air over a "small upstate airport" - if they had, they would've taken out my neighborhood - my neighbor SAW the near-miss.

I was in Taiwan. Can't really remember what I was doing at the exact moment it happened but I do remember seeing everything in the news. I cried. I remember standing very still with a hand on my lips and the other on my heart. 9/11 was one of the reasons why I stopped watching and reading the news. I felt my heart bleed for those who've lost their loved ones. And I still can't understand why anyone would do such a thing.Though I didn't lose any loved ones in that incident, I still find myself hurting when I'm reminded of it.

Just waking up to my alarm going off and hearing about 9/11 on the radio. At first I thought I was just having the worst dream because I wasnt really all that awake. Then I turned on the TV and they kept showing the video coverage of the twin towers. Sad sad day. We will never forget.

I was sleeping in my dorm room and I heard about it on the radio when my alarm clock woke me up. It was so scary. There was this girl running through the halls shouting, "They got the Pentagon now!" I didn't believe her until I saw it with my own eyes. Some classes were cancelled and others weren't. Most of my professors let us vote on whether to have class that day.

I was at school, I thought that was one of the movie the school show at first. No one believe what really happen at that moment, the campus has to close down to avoid being a target from the terrorists.
