Ok so im 26 weeks into my pregnancy and i work in an enviroment where physical labour is necessary. I'm considering going on maternity leave early because my doctor gave me a list of things that i should NOT be doing at work. at i seem to be doing most of them, so i'm at risk for pre-term labour.

I dont want anything bad to happen to the baby so next week at my doc's appointment im asking if I should be going on maternity leave early.

does anyone think that by doing this i'm being lazy or just not want to work?

I'm a supervisor at my job and the other supervisors only want me to stay longer for their own benefits.

My doctor pulled me out of work at 32 weeks because I was already 2 cm dialated. If you want your dr to pull you out of work then do it. Don't feel lazy. You've sacrificed your body for another human being and that's tough. Screw your supervisors..this is your body and your baby. If you don't feel comfortable then go on leave.

I think you should take your maternity leave, you have to look after number 1 which at this moment is you and your baby!

You can either not do the strenuous work and stay in work or take the maternity leave. But don't feel bad about the other supervisors.. I had a work environment like this once and you just need to think about yourself.. it may seem selfish but trust me they'll walk all over you if you let them.

Most important thing is to take care of your baby. Your doctor knows best - trust him/her. And, no, you're not lazy - you are a caring mother/person. Period.

You should get a note from your doctor, so that you can be on bed rest, or something like that. I'm not sure if there are financial benefits from that from your company, but certainly it helps protect your job for later when you go back.

And, your co-workers/direct reports will do fine without you. That's actually a good sign of a manager who is able to have her direct reports step up to the plate. Shows you've coached them well.

I wouldn't think you're lazy or don't want to work. There are many things pregnant women should not be doing. I have a feeling if you told your doctor you were doing most of the things on the do not do list, your doc will tell you to start your leave.

Your concern now shouldn't be for if people think you're lazy or don't want to work. It should be for your baby and making sure he/she gets here when he/she is supposed to!

Best of luck to you, and enjoy the maternity leave. It's your last chance for peace, quiet and tons of rest for awhile! :)

Your job should give you other jobs for you to do because there is no reason that you should waste your paid maternity leave on pre-baby time. They can find something for you to do, even if it's kinda crappy work. You can still supervise w/ minimal involvement. That's what a supervisor does, looks over the other workers. Yes, laborers work better w/ their supervisors than for them, but that's tough luck! Fight to the bitter end girl! Stick with it! [ or see if they'll pay you for more time off! ;) ]

only YOU know if you're being lazy. If you're doctor says dont' do heavy labor, then you shoulnd't, and have nothing to feel sorry for. Why are you still doing things you shouldn't be doing at work? Is there not enough help? do you feel guilty not doing them? You can tell you're co-workers, I either stay at work on light duty, or I leave. Period. Now......whether or not you will get disability coverage for this is another story. I believe y ou need medical permission for that.

With my first child, I ended up taking my maternity leave early, too. I kind of had to since I was put onto strict bed rest. It would have been interesting trying to do my job from bed!!

Do what you have to do to keep your baby and yourself safe and healthy. You're pregnant, not lazy. You're in all liklihood exhuasted, constipated, sore, sleep deprived from having to pee 3 times a night, and oh...did I mention exhuasted?

Oh, and congratulations on your soon-to-be new baby!!!

you need to do whats good for you and the baby. if you were to go pre-term you would kick yourself for doing the things on the "do not do list".

you are not lazy for taking care of yourself! Talk to the doc and take care of the baby and you too.

maybe you can get a note from the doc that states what you can not do and talk to the human resources of your comp. they can not make you do it, legally. they are obligated to meet your needs on some level.

I don't think you're lazy or shirking work. Your baby's health is the most important thing, far more important than what other people think. And seriously, anyone who thinks that is lazy themselves and also inconsiderate.
Your baby should come first. Well, you and your baby should come first.
I'm with you!!
