In theory, you should call the Embassy. However many times they aren't much help.

The trick is, to stay out of trouble!

Depending on what country, keep some cash on you. That can fix small problems, in many countries.

Make sure someone from home, knows where you are going to be, and when. That way they can report you missing.

I will repeat, the best way is to avoid it! Drugs in some countries will get you the death sentence, and no one can help you.

Contact the Embassy of the COuntry you are from.

However if the COuntry you are from does not have an Embassy in the Country you are visiting then contact an Embassy that handles Interests section for your Country.

For example the Swiss Embassy handles American Interests section in Iran and Cuba, the Swedish Embassy handles American Interests section in North Korea.

1. Stay out of trouble. Respect the rules of the land and know that you will be punished according to THEIR rules, and not those of the country you come frome.

2. If you manage to get into trouble, contact your EMBASSY as soon as possible.

First and foremost....stay out of trouble! Good grief. But just in case, before you go, make sure you know the numbers and location of the Embassy.
