That will be a hard task since AMC is not only out of business, but was under different ownership a few times since then. The best bet would be a Jeep dealer since that was the last place AMC were sold. Even if they can't do it, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Some makes, like VW or Saab, have a cult following and there are owner's clubs and specialty shops to address this concern, but AMC didn't really have that. Things like the Gremlin, Javelin, and Rebel have their fans, but I know of no dedicated AMC clubs or shops in the mid-Atlantic region.

The other issue is that keys back then were not as precise and even knowing the VIN of your care may not help. It might be easier just to go to a locksmith and have them pick the lock, and replace it with either a more modern mechanism, or if you are worried about authenticity, get one from a donor AMC somewhere else.

Good luck!

Try going to chrysler. They might be able to help you since they bought out AMC a long ways back. Good Luck!

If you contact a dealer and give them the VIN number they will be able to look up the key codes and cut you a key...If that does not work you will have to contact a locksmith and have them come out and make a dummy key.(yes it is called a dummy key)...and then they can cut you a key..Or last but not least....Drill it out and replace the key tumblers.....It is tricky but can be done.......Good luck..

you might call around to local salvage yards (junk yards) and see if they have any 73 AMC's...they might have a key or know a place to get one
