Ist class train travel is more in style, comfort and supposedly high end?! service by the Railways.
Whereas in 2nd class you are more close to masses, socializing, experience common man's sorrows and friendliness and much cheaper, of course.
BTW Indian Railways has been gradually dispensing with 1st class in its trains and replacing with 2nd AC coaches. The reason is tough competition with airlines offering fare at par or even less comparing railways 1st class journey fare.

1st class more spaces than 2nd class on the train.

Train fare for 2nd class is lesser than first class. In first class no. of seats are limited,reserved. Seats are comfortable.
