no, find a color that complements your eyes and stick with it, if you try to match it takes the focus away from your face.

No, this looks tacky. You need a complimentary color. So lets say your dress is a yellow, wear a purple shade of eye shadow. But it also depends on if that certain shade of purple will go with your eye color. It's all trial and error and seeing what works for you but the general rule of thumb is do not match eye shadow to dress color.

Interesting question.
What if you plan to wear a rainbow colored dress, or a black dress?
I learned that experts recommend the match the eye shadow to your eye color. Unfortunately, for me, brown is dull & boring. Here's what I discovered. Because I have a pinkish color to my skin, I look very good wearing pink or purple eyeshadow. Perhaps you could try matching it to your skin, i.e. if you have a "warm" color skin, use the warm toned eyeshadow, etc.

I read this when I was in the fifth grade and I will never not go by this rule ever (and it also let me have a laugh during seventh grade pictures when the girl in front of me was glomming green eye shodow on the girl in front of her "because she had some green in her shirt"). I always go for colors that compliment my eyes and general coloring. Almay has a wonderful line that matches shadow, liner, and mascara according to eye color. Also, going with complimentary colors works, too. InStyle magazine also said that navy liner on brown eyes works (and I tried it and it does).

I don't use strong colour anymore as I prefer to use shadow to highlight my eyes and not match with my oufit. Besides some colours of clothing may look great on you but the eyeshadow is not a good match.

Hmmm, not necessarily. It depends on the color of the dress. Like, if you have a black dress, youre not wearing black eyeshadow. But if you have ,say, a turqoiuse blue dress, you wear a blue shade, but in a lighter hue than the dress. With black, u can wear a smokey grey color. It also depends on your skin tone and eye color. I wear a champagne colored shade a lot because it goes with virtually everything!:P

Honestly, you want to compliment your face more. You outfit/dress already does enough on its own. So you want to have colors on that make your face stand out. You dont want to look like the dress is wearing you; you want to look like you are wearing the dress. Just simply go to my website and do a virtual makeover (that fits your eye color and skin color), there will be awesome products that await for you and make you fabulous!

Sometimes, but mostly yes. Most people often use blue, purple or green. It's like, if you're wearing a red dress, you might want yellow or orange. It's like the different tones of colour.

Depends, if I'm wearing something blue for example, I won't wear brown eyeshadow, I'll maybe wear grey or silver or just stick to eyeliner and mascara so it doesn't clash..
If I'm wearing brown I'll wear some nice sparkly beige eyeshadow.
I don't match it exactly but it never clashes ;)
