Not MAKE you smarter, but KEEP you smarter longer. There is good evidence that doing puzzles such as crossword puzzles, cryptograms word games, etc., will keep elderly people mentally alert longer, so that they have less in the way of dementia or memory lapses. I'm not sure about logic puzzles, sudoku or other games. You might be able to search online and find some research about it.
