depends on the generation deciding your question...don't expect a couple of 80 yrs olds to care too much for the recent stuff. Likewise young kids hardly know anything about the older stuff that's difficult to even find in re-runs anymore...to each his own...with that being said 'Seinfeld' was voted the best show of all time recently.

Every decade has its good and bad. The 70's would probably rank number one for ground-breaking shows created during that time. But I'm going to have to say the 80's was the best decade for TV. The two highest rated TV shows of all time - the M*A*S*H finale and Dallas "Who Shot J.R." - aired in the 80's. It also marked the launch of MTV and the growth of cable.
And if you could leave the crappy reality shows out of it, the 00's have been great for TV. 24, Lost, CSI, Law & Order: SVU, American Idol, Survivor, West Wing, My Name is Earl, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Desperate Housewives... But unfortunately, you have to include all the terrible reality shows also.

i have personally been through 4 decades of television and it was the 70,s trust me brady bunch,sanford and son,all in the family,mash,the jeffersons,starsky and hutch,partridge family,chico and the man,gilligans island,the munsters,addams family and more!!!

Children's TV was the best in the 90's, I enjoyed my TV childhood.
