We do a variation on the Slug Bug game. There is no hitting. We call on Volkswagen Bugs, Aztecs, P.T. (Barnam) Cruisers, and Honda Elements, these are all distinctive body styles and easy to spot. We also get points for trucks with what my son calls redneck oversize tires. We also try to think of the weirdest words we can from the letters on the license plates.

Ask your parents to tell you a story about when they were your age. Ask them things that are important to you (who was your first kiss? when did you go to your first dance? did you ever care about [politics, environment, war, etc]) write their answers down and then surprise them in December with an article about them. They'll love the thought, it will be a great way to know them other than just being MOM and DAD (or whoever) then you have a holiday gift for them ready so no shopping in December! and they will love it! If you're lucky enough to have two parents really put some thought in it, have one answer all of your questions on the way up and one on the way back. It will be a great gift, your Mom will cry!OK if you're not into that...20 questions, license plate game, mad libs, truth or dare...

Have a family sing-a-long or sing together with tapes with silly songs like "On Top Of Spaghetti",
http://www.bussongs.com/
or have your own version of "American Car Idol" with cooler songs. Buy a few karoke cds or tapes to play in the car and print out lyric pages (in large bold print so it's easier to read while traveling and not strain your eyes.

Play the Un-Game
http://www.boardgames.com/pocketungame.html
it has two levels of questions - not so serious questions for lighter moods and younger players, or serious questions for deeper stuff or older players. It's a lot of fun!
Or you could play Trivial Pursuit ("on the go" edition)
http://www.boardgames.com/trpupocutogo.html
It has 600 questions about pop culture and other stuff.
Just make sure the driver isn't too distracted to drive safely :)
Have a fun and safe trip! :)

we always like to see how many different places people's licenses are from, write them down and that works.
It would be good to know how old the children are
Another thing we have done is try to guess what the next vehicle will be, truck, car, van....
Or, try to guess a colour of the next vehicle approaching you
