Kids view their mother and father differently and therefore treat them differently.
If you'll permit me to use a religious example to make my secular point... the Torah instructs people to "Honor your father and mother" and "Fear your mother and father".
In the first rule, father is listed first, because kids tend to honor/love their mothers more.
In the second rule, mother is first, because kids tend to fear their fathers more.
To summarize, there is no "best" when it comes to mother and father -- they are equal, but children percieve them differently.

Both mother and father are the best, but for some it's mother, and for the others it's fathers, but for me, it's both.

There is no choice here, I love my parents equally and only hope I can be a good a parents as they BOTH were to me.
If in my next life I had a choice of parents, I would choose them BOTH again.
