some of the computers in my LAN are broadcasting.
how do I prevent that?

Not enough information to tell. But put ethereal on one of them and check out the packets and see which ones are doing what.

Depends on what your computers are broadcasting. Some broadcasts you need like ARP.

If the broadcast is a protocol you don't need and you are running Windows you can disable it in the control panel pick "network connections".

Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections.

Warning: Don't disable anything if you are not sure of what it does or you could disable your network connection.
